PLEASE Release CNBLUE's Own Songs in Korea!
There's a rumor circulating among Korean fans that CNBLUE's next Korean single will again be written by Kim Do-hun. Though it's unconfirmed, it doesn't seem unrealistic considering FNC's continuous usage of the "two-track strategy" in Korea and Japan. Even if it won't be his song again this time, or whether or not it will have an impact on FNC's decision to use KDH's song, we CANNOT just stand and watch FNC crush CNBLUE's musical progress in the last two years by yet again releasing a song written by an outside composer. Even if all of this goes in vain, I think we should definitely have our voices heard, so I propose the following to ALL BOICES OF THE WORLD:
While reserving our conclusion that this rumor is true, why don't we express to FNC our strong wish for songs written by CNBLUE to become the new single in Korea? Let's gather our forces and be as effective and serious as possible.
So far the results of my brainstorming (not in particular order):
1. The fans' wish: CNBLUE to release singles written by CNBLUE in Korea from now on
2. Public reaction to songs: KDH and CNBLUE, perhaps captured comments on message boards, etc?
3. Actual sales: Falling statistics since I'm a loner->Love->Intuition on digital charts, Oricon records for IMH/WYA
4. KDH's public image as a composer (re:plagiarism)/ CNBLUE's distorted public image due to using his songs ("not a real band", "can't even write own music" etc)
Let's brainstorm together! The venue doesn't necessarily have to be this blog only--please feel free to suggest ANYTHING about this matter, such as where to discuss this, what issue to bring up, etc!
*For the moment, I think it might work for me to take Kor/Eng opinions separately and update the summary of each side's discussions. Please let me know if this sounds effective, I'm really open to any suggestions!
First of all, thanks for bringing this to our attention and for starting this post to allow us brainstorm, heich!
ReplyDeleteHere are my thoughts in addition to yours, in no particular order:
1. Start a poll, perhaps in CNBLUESTORM to get fan feedback to further strengthen our case (statistics are the best way to get a message across). Am sure we can rally the admins there for this.
2. Though this was not a professional review, it was featured in allkpop which does have some weight as an international kpop media source. The writer essentially expressed disappointment in Intuition (lack of progression) and thought Love Girl would have been a better representation. http://www.allkpop.com/2011/03/review-first-step-by-cnblue
3. Seoulbeats is another site that has more insightful editorials on kpop. I do not have any connections there but it might be worth a try to see if they'd write an article about this as perhaps the next progression for kpop, i.e. expectations for artists to be more involved in the creation of their own music.
4. Short term vs Long term. I am not an expert in the US/UK music scene, but I do know that artists who write their own music have a lot more credibility and respect here. In fact, the expectations for a rock band is that they write their own music. period. And if FNC is setting its sights on the market here, it needs to stop distorting public image of the boys and start to only release self-penned music. Yes, short term KDH is tried and tested, but long term, the credibility of the band is at stake and that would impact any future progression into the western market.
6. This is totally random and I don't even know if this is relevant but since this is a brain dump... There was this facebook poll (BestofKorea, i believe) that garnered a lot of attention for selecting Yong Hwa and Heartstrings as top or something. I wonder if that could be another avenue to get some attention to this.... anyone knows anything more about this? The originator seemed to be a CNBLUE supporter and the poll results did get some korean press notice. Don't really know how to utilize this, just throwing it out there.
7. piffania - in one of his/her first reviews, i believe this issue of distorted public image was raised and how he/she was truly surprised to find the wealth of talent beneath the surface. And it was mentioned that this is something the band will have to work out. Not sure if any of his/her other articles addressed this further (still waiting for further translations from dear kay77) but would we be able to get his/her thoughts on this? And use that as additional source to back us up?
Whatever approach we come up with to bring this to FNC's attention, we may need to be very careful in how we word it or bring it up to them. My observation is that FNC tends to get overly defensive (very common reaction from less mature organizations) and has a large ego. We can hate on them all we want but they do represent CNBLUE after all, and we need to make sure all parties come out of this smelling like a bed of roses. My work requires me to present findings to executives in large organizations and I find that the best way to get a message across is if we keep it fact driven (statistics, sources), no personal attacks (even at composers we don't fancy) and has a clear benefits case (what's in it for not just CNBLUE but FNC). Of course, some media attention to create a burning platform always helps too but that might be a little far fetched... :)
Additional thoughts? I'll post in the soompi forum as well, that place has been rather dead of late and perhaps this is what we need to revive it.
Let's get this ball rolling!

ReplyDeleteThanks for bringing this to us Heich!
DeleteTo me, i didn't hate Kim Do-hun songs, I respected him as a writer for whatever he wrote. But a band, real band in long way need to reduce their own music, that is exactly what Boys are doing now in Japan. Their music rock in Japanese market. Japanese fans and international fans like those songs.
But we have to stay here and think again. In Korea, has the music market ever thought that CNBLUE are bands or just a handsome and talent boys group? ...That's the point. . . They debuted as an idol..an idol group~~ so the prjudice was there since they started.
I feel standing in opposite directions in this case.
But one things i want to do is support them until the end of this world, so i want to join this and share some ideals:
1. Try to start a poll in international fansites like CNBLUESTORM. Fans will get many feedbacks in that and then we gather a huge number of Boices who not in Korea.
2. As far as i remembered, they said boys usually visit their DC Gall, so can we post our opinion their, then hope that they can see our points and what we really want.
3. Only international Boices won't be enough. If Korean Boice agree to co-operate with us, it will be more efficient. Like a big protest outside FNC buidling or whatever through phones or messages. If it become big, media will get into and then FNC have to think rightly to react with media.
Btw, FNC is still company which managed our boys. So I think we should be very be careful in this case. I want them to treat boys in good conditions. Of course they have to do that because boys bring them the large amount of money. So first let's try to contact with the person who has highest position in Korean fanclub and talk about this case.
To add more, i don't think the review from other writers will work with FNC. Haizz they won't read it anymore. yah perhaps read but then they will consider it's just a own review of the writer, so they have their own mind, and FNC has their own mind.
ReplyDeleteFirst of all, thanks for bringing out this issue. I've been wanting to voice out the same thought since the release of 'First Step'. Pardon me for any inappropriate statement, feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.
ReplyDelete[Background - Hypothesis]
Why FNC didn't choose member(s)' composition as the title track?
When business and passion of music unites, it's quite complicated. We should keep in mind that Korean and Japanese music industry structure that they engage in is quite different. I see insecurity in FNC. We know that FNC is not as big as SM and YG, they still want to get more attention from fans. Until now, they may think that releasing a title track that more or less have a similar sense of rhythm with other Kpop artists will be beneficial for them, especially in album sales and music program ranks. I see that winning a music program is somewhat important. Besides, they don't have many chances to play live in other than their individual concert. It's all about how to secure and enlarge their market in Korea. Unfortunately, the side effect that it will rebirth the prejudice about CNBLUE all over again.
[Issue - Hypothesis]
Seeing that background, I think the point that we should emphasize is how we assure them that we prefer CNBLUE's own composition that other composer's. How we assure that it will not affect their album sales or music program ranks.
[Proposed Solution]
I totally agree with @checkinout #1 thought. Numbers are powerful, it can make everything become more reliable. Rather than expressing our thoughts verbally to FNC, numbers would be more convincing. It doesn't mean that verbal thought will not make any difference, it means that we need more supporting facts. Maybe we can make a kind of portfolio.
Maybe we can make a poll that voice out question like 'What kind of song do you want to become CNBLUE's title track in the upcoming album?' or 'Will you buy CNBLUE upcoming Korean album? Why?'
Statistics from Japanese major debut singles sales also can be included, comparison of concert attendances, overseas sales, listening frequency comparison in digital music sites. I don't know if it's possible to acquire such data. But we should show them that CNBLUE's own composition are loved.
If they aim for international fame, maybe we could add statistics showing that most of western successful bands are 100% composing their own songs. Like @checkinout said it's about long term sustainability.
I'm so excited with this :)
Thanks.
thank you for your effort...
ReplyDeletei think ALL BOICE agree with you...
BAND need composed their own music..
and My favorite CNBLUE songs are composed by CNBLUE
there are 70 songs in Jonghyun iPad...why they don't choose 2 or 3 song to release...
and i think yonghwa have a lot of songs too..why they don't pick 2 or 3 songs...
and i hope all songs in album/mini album are composed by CNBLUE
i will support wherever and whenever...
I like the way you said "My favorite CNBLUE songs are composed by CNBLUE." I feel the same way... I am sure all the CNBLUE fans feel the same. I would like to say to FNC, if you don't suceed with their own song as a title to their new albumn, the fans will buy up the all the left over albums....I will work harder to buy more if I have to. Twitter@Geaniee
DeleteThank you so much for this. And I see very educated discussions here, not just overreaction from obsessive/over-protected fans (you know how some people call us). Not speaking of myself, but am sure many fans around know much about the Korean music scene, and/or handle/deal with big business deals in real life. It’s okay that we spill out all our thoughts discussing with fellow fans here or elsewhere, but we do need to be careful what to include in the actual statement. We just shouldn’t sound like we know more than them, how to do music/business and all.
ReplyDeleteI think the truth is, whatever they plan with the next K single/album, it’s everything to do with sales numbers. Should we just assure them we music lovers all over the world want CNBLUE’s own songs in Korea? We like and buy their Japanese singles and want the Korean ones to be on the same track. I’m not even sure if it’s a good idea to show them music sales statistics. Shouldn’t they have them all and shouldn’t they pay attention to those? Our bringing that up implies they don’t know?
Been shouting for the boys’ own work before First Step’s release but was so disappointed. Yeah, I’ve wanted to protest to the company for so long. To me, the trick is how to make the protest doesn’t look like one. And I have no clue how this can be done exactly. Am just telling you what’s in my mind.
Being articulate isn’t my strength, hope you and others see what I mean.
Come to think of it, I agree with you.
DeleteIt's tricky.
I'll support whatever Boice will do.
:)
Hi there,
ReplyDeleteThanks for taking the proactive steps and initiated the topic as well as brought attention to this matter.
First time here, quite a frequent lurker. Anyhoo, that's not important.
Just a suggestion from my humble-self, general rule of thumb, for a proposal to be seen in a favourable light, it needs to be tailored to suit the taste of the person/company it intended for. In this case, it would be FNC.
Therefore, a discrete and delicate study on the person(s) running the show - his characters, style, ambition etc etc, in that wave length would give some basis on strategies to use and how the proposal would be put forth/customize to FNC's taste. We also need to be mindful over the custom/cultural sensitivity here (note I've read the "Doing Biz In South Korea" articles).
With the background fillers then the next step of 4Ws & 1H (what, where, when, why and how) would be easier because information gathering we could enlist all Boices and allies assistance.
Thank you and have a nice day.
I mean "over-protective" fans ... typo, sorry!
ReplyDeletePS CNBSTORM and Code Azzuro knew about this discussion and I heard the admins will discuss among themselves too.
Thank You so much Heich for bringing up this.
ReplyDeleteActually I'm kinda blur with music trend or music market in Korea, and I'm not a person who fully understand about music/ music industry. I only share my thought and my understanding as commoner, listener, and CNBlue fan.
I have only very limited knowledge about Korean music trend/market. But, what I see is (perhaps I make a rush summary) a band who play instruments are not that familiar as those idol groups who dance or something like that. Once again, perhaps I could be wrong with this.
But, talking about a band, I do agree with some points mentioned by others before.
As checkinout stated about they might write/produce their own music. I strongly agree with that opinion.
Here in my country, in Indonesia, mostly a band write/ compose their own song (and some others also collaborates with other). What can I see is since they are able to play instruments, yet they have a kinda feel or something that lead them to create song. And we all know that they have it. We know Jung Yonghwa's passion on write lyrics and arrange music. Jong Hyun also have a passion on that. And from some recent interviews, Jungshin and Minhyuk show their willingness to learn how to produce songs. And it's very natural, as I see, as musician they want to produce music (well they already did). So, why can't we just give them more chances to show it?
So far they can show their ability on making music, mostly on their Japanese album. If they can make it in Japan, why can't they do the same thing in Korea? That's what I thought. Perhaps the culture of music in Japan and Korea is different, and so far they fit Japanese music culture.
But, I'm sure all boices have already listen to their Korean/Japanese album. Either international fans or Korean fans can clearly see and prove what they said in many interviews about their passion on creating music by themselves.
In short, as checkinout's no.1 points and rifni's comment on it. Give them numbers from polling that we make, and bring up also statistic of their Japanese albums. And do not forget about the 'rule of game' as The_Joker try to remind us about FNC's taste as their label company and culture/custom there. We just can't express our thought and willingness as free as we want. We have to be diplomatic in deliver our thought, by giving them the reasons (we can relate the reason with the culture/common there, the possibility if CNBlue release K albums by using their own music and prove them with the result from polling involve Korean and international fans and use the statistic of their Japanese albums as references.
That's what I want to share.
Sorry if my english is not that good, but hopefully you can understand what I mean.
totaly agree with your comment,my english is not good too and i don't have so much words to share and explain my thought. and now i'll try to share my thought about cnblue's songs, seems like out of topic but i just wanna share it.to be honest,i'm a loner was a big hit in but the music was not my type,i prefer love, love revolution,i will forget you, love girl,i will forget you,try again smile again, lie and i don't know why.for their japan album i love most of their songs both groovy songs or slow tempo songs. it's obvious most of my fav songs was composed or written by cnblue's members. and for intuition mmm it's hard to say but i have to say this,i felt dissapointed, as a commoner and listener i think they put too much maroon 5 sound on it.
Deletei hope someday FNC will hear about our opinion and start to think of it.my dream about cnblue is i hope they will be like my fav band nickelback, even though they are getting older day by day, they still have a place in music industry and they can survive among mainstream music nowdays.
last but not least thank you so much for this heich.hwaiting everybody :)
Thanks all for your thoughtful and heartful comments!!
ReplyDeleteI also think a positive approach in support of our boys' compositions would be better as opposed to a negative one toward KDH's. Come to think of it, it was HSH messed the public relations during I'm a Loner, not KDH. Antagonizing the songwriter doesn't seem like a very good idea (though a part of me still strongly wants to point out how he's perceived in Korea). Anyhow, providing them with good reviews on the boys' compositions (piffania, and others), probably can't hurt.
I definitely agree that we should choose our words very carefully. From what I've observed, FNC is not exactly a fan-friendly company. Provoking their big ego's probably not a very good idea. But how do we make them LISTEN?...that's the thing.
Another issue is, how big do we want this thing to blow up? If we contact other media or Kpop forums (about this unconfirmed rumor to begin with), wouldn't CNBLUE's image be too victimized? I for sure want their public image to be independent--how much should this get spread? Or we could give an ultimatum to FNC with a deadline to respond to us, and if nothing happens/KDH's song's confirmed, then we act out?...
Whether or not we want to publicize this out of proportion, something I want to include is a show of OUR numbers. And not just lnumbers, but perhaps in the form of individual fans' messages about how much they like the boys' own music. Could be specific, could be broad...but instead of "I sign this petition", wouldn't that be more meaningful if it served both as a petition and collected expressions of our appreciation? In many different languages, it might send a very powerful message, both to FNC and the boys.
I agree with you. "in the form of individual fans' messages about how much they like the boys' own music. Could be specific, could be broad...".
ReplyDeletei totally agree with you because each song they composed were brought up to the light from a real experience CNBLUE boys passed through and which in return increased the audience reaction toward their beautiful coloured music..i like the songs CNBLUE boys composed by themselves more than those composed by other writers..because it influences me..i think FNC can try to let boys make it in their way this time, there is no problem with helping them but not hiding or covering their true ability..Let them release it..in all cases we'll be responsible as boices & we'll support them, even if FNC thought it's not good[i doubt that CNBLUE may produce something not good] Boices will buy all DVDs & cheers boys to keep their progress :)so FNC plz don't worry just let boys make it..CNBLUE songs..Lie..i don't know why..feeling..sweet holiday & others are Living examples :)
ReplyDeleteGreat discussions going on here. Apologies for my long post earlier, emotions were still raw and i had no idea it was that long until I posted.
ReplyDeleteSounds like we are all in agreement that we should keep the atmosphere positive and I agree with klaritia/t_j that we should not try to come across as knowing the music industry in Korea more than FNC, though we may still make a different case for the US/UK market if we had enough facts. :)
I love reading the posts about how we all prefer CNBLUE's self-composed music. To be honest, if it weren't for Just Please, Y, Why, Tattoo (that sealed the deal for me, I LOVE THAT SONG), Lie, and every single new release in their last 3 Japanese albums, I would not be a fan of CNBLUE. It is THEIR self-composed music that I follow, not the Korean title songs.
Heich, I really like your point on how we should capture all these comments from different people. I say we awe FNC with the sheer amount (at least I hope we get) of comments/support/statistics showing how we all prefer CNBLUE's music, some additional rough ideas:
1. Create a simple poll that says: "I would like CNBLUE's next Korean title song to be their own composition" with a "Yes" and "No"
We can wordsmith the actual question, but keep it simple and to the point so that we can get as many responses as possible.
2. In that same poll, have a comments section and ask folks why they feel that way, or to share their favorite CNBLUE compositions. Should we keep it to Korean, Japanese and English (sorry to the other countries) so that they can read the comments and get a rough understanding?
3. Consolidate these into a book of sorts (let's aim for it to be thick!) and call it something positive like "BOICES love CNBLUE self-compositions: A display of support from Boices around the world!" Include poll results (from point 1), selected external reviews, and then pages and pages of comments/support/messages from Boices (from point 2)
No need to talk abt KDH, sales numbers etc, just that there is a huge market and lots of love for CNBLUE self-penned songs.
I also say that we should do this now while we have the momentum running. Other inputs?^^

ReplyDeleteSkim the posts above and I had given the matter quite some thoughts and I do feel that to continue discussing here would be like showing the cards you have in your hands.
ReplyDeleteBriefly, I would like to propose that it would be advantage to adopt a flip strategy especially in view of FNC distinctive flair. Let's complement the company for having nurtured the talents.
We are also eagerly awaiting for CNB comeback with their own song(s), which FNC in foresight have shown remarkable aptitude in knowing exactly the "pulse and music beat" of the band to the delight and admiration of music lovers and fans.
To show our strong continuous support and unity towards CNB and FNC, we have gathered some information - stats, ratios and fans messages together with questionnaires and polls, just to mark our great appreciation of such understanding and relationship between C.N. Blue + FNC + Boices.
The repetitive and positive connotation would be used throughout our appreciation deliverable.
Hi everyone..
ReplyDeleteI'm Fizzy, writing on behalf of CNBLUESTORM.
It's great to read the discussion we have here, and it shows how mature BOICE are. No emotional or meaningless comments written, each of the comment posted are written with love towards CNBLUE. How can I not be happpy to be a part of this awesome fandom?
To Heich, thanks for coming up with the post(s). I was actually reading (stalking?lol) KBoices' tweets about KDH and HSH, but I kept it to myself since I didn't know how "true" was the rumor. But seeing that you brought up the issue, having a discussion about it seemed rather apt.
Anyway, I think we could do a simple poll on CNBLUESTORM, just like what checkinout suggested. Our blog might not be visited by FNC and CNBLUE on regular basis like DC, but at least they know we exist. Hopefully if we were to make the poll, it will reach FNC's HSH attention.
Waiting for more insights from KBoices.. till then, keep in touch! :)
checkinout/thanks for all of ur input! ^^
ReplyDeleteI have some questions about the issues you raised:
#1
I'm wondering what we would do with the poll. are we taking this poll from a general Kpop website? or from the fanbase? We have to keep in mind that any vote on "no" might not look very good. If we only want to show support, how can that poll be worded? or..should we have one?
#3
I guess this comes back down to the question of "how much publicity do we want?" If we do a book, it probably won't get any other readership. That itself isn't too bad, but would it ensure that the decisionmakers see it? How can we make it effective so that our messages are received and understood by FNC?
maybe we can all flood FNC's twitter account with these mentions at the same time? make it twitter trending topic with a hashtag?...what's would be a good venue to show our collective action? some ppl at the DCjyh are talking about leaving msgs at the FNC freeboard. That could be another option.
I'll come back later with summaries on other boards. keep the brains rolling!! thanks a ton ^^
heich, great questions and I don't have the answers^^ but here's an opinion and am sure others would have better ones:
ReplyDelete#1 While having a general public poll might provide a stronger case, most of general public probably do not know the songs that CNBLUE self-composed if all they've associated them with is Loner, Love and Intuition. :( So yes, we might get a lot of 'no' from them. Perhaps we can host the poll on a fansite (thanks Fizzy for joining us here, CNBLUESTORM would be a great place) and spread the link via twitter, forums, facebook, other fansites etc. My bigger concern is not getting enough numbers for it to be significant, but guess I need to have more faith in Boices.
#3 Great point on the book not getting readership/attention. Perhaps we can deliver the book with something more attention grabbing like thousands of paper cranes with the poll website link? I'm not very good at the attention grabbing ideas since I'm not very creative (remember reading about paper cranes from some other fandoms), anyone with other original ideas that is easy to execute but with a great visual effect?
I love the twitter idea too! Yes, let's spam them and include the link to the website with the poll and comments. AND leave messages on the freeboard.
And so it doesn't seem like we're terrorizing FNC (which we are, of course), is there a special date coming up that we can coincide with that we can relate to CNBLUE's self-composition so we can name the day "Love CNBLUE's self-composition' day or something (sorry that the names are getting more lame, am clearly running out of creative juices here). Else, we'll just pick a date and that date will be special in the coming years.^^
Ok, I'll keep quiet now before I drive everyone mad with my continued ramblings.^^
Oh, and it's bizarre but I'd mentioned Seoulbeats in my first comment, and they just posted an article yesterday called "Breaking Idol Stereotypes" where they talked about CNBLUE/Yong Hwa's as idols who are breaking stereotypes with their song-writing!
ReplyDeletehttp://seoulbeats.com/2012/02/breaking-the-idol-stereotype
Thank's for share about this article. I feel so happy by reading this article. :)
DeleteFlooding FNC's twitter mention is a good idea.
ReplyDeleteHow about also mentioning some FNC people? Though I don't know if it's a good idea or not.
And how about making a kind of picture or poster that show our support to CNBLUE's own composition? And Boice can use the picture as their display picture on twitter.
I don't know, but I think twitter also could plays a big role in communicating with FNC, and I'm sure they realize it ^^
A huge buzz in the publicity is ALWAYS a good thing, there's never a bad publicity just depend on how you handle/use/channel it.
ReplyDeleteActually, what I was thinking instead of pointing we "want" to make FNC "listen", let's make it in a way that using CNB's own compositions was the "idea" generated from the company itself. That was the rationale behind the positive connotation. It's like when you keep feeding "positive statement" towards the mind then positive action and result would be the outcome. Based on heich brief description about FNC and its style of management as well as from the readings whatever I could gather bout this company, I would propose to select this path instead.
For the book - I would say it would be good because at the end of the day, it still boils down to money. How much we rant or grumble, yup still money. As mentioned briefly via tweet about the 2 prongs strategies. One skewed to business side whilst the other on fans sentiment. For the business side, here it would be great to put in statistics in terms of records sales, legitimate songs download etc. From the fans sentiment, then brief messages would be wonderful. A holistic...overall feel in maneuvering the outcome we aim for.
We could also insert some of the long standing bands to show the compounded effect in terms of ratio to counter 3 songs that could be the crowds' favourite or pleaser thus had generated more sales in South Korea since I dont have the exact details on the revenues. Therefore, to overcome this, the sustainability and continuity, taking in the long range look would be good.
Correct me if I'm wrong please, from what I've gathered in the South Korea entertainment scene - a hit (be it via drama or pop music/idol) then it would also mean tons of CFs. So, we might wish to include the growth rate of Kboice and international fans. But the growth not supported by "spending" would be immaterial to nail our key objective.
Subsequently, about the polls, I would like to suggest "polls cum survey" because we would be providing valuable input and statement towards FNC. In terms of, not only Boices and/or music lovers appreciate and support CNB through the songs they composed BUT also backed by the "spending power" to prove such actions. A good example would be BYJ (he instantly came to my mind in regards to Hallyu wave), his fans spending power and loyalty is undoubtedly and lasting. This was because of BYJ's persona that he constantly portrayed thus hit home a clear and direct message. So to channel that same concept pertaining to CNB, we need to drive the message to FNC that Boices and/or music lovers "appreciate and admire" bands that selves composed their songs. CNB self composed songs would root the feeling of "connection" towards fans and/or music lovers and as such would result in loyalty. With this action, we could drive 2 messages to FNC:
1) Returns (money) to be generated by the company in the future
2) The fans continuous support and lasting interest towards CNB and their crafts.
For twitter trending - that would be a powerful tool indeed BUT any reference towards KDH or using Non-CNB compositions from FNC, overall just avoid mentioning about this rumour because it has negative flavour. Instead trending towards positive message for example, CNB comeback in May with own songs, thank you FNC.
I like the idea to bring up our willingness of CNB's self-composed song(s) into twitter.
DeleteI do agree with your points about this action probably would give many returns to the company in the future, and the fans continuous support towards CNBlue. And I think once it becomes a trend, it perhaps will cause curiosity for those who doesn't really know about them, and they perhaps will try to listen more about CNB music (this is according to my experience back then, hhe).
about the poll tho, like I said, we wouldn't be able to use any negativity. what if there are many "no"s? they are entitled to feel that way, but it won't help us at all.
Deleteso I think rather than a poll asking yes/no, a petition (I looked some up in that last comment I put up) that only has SUPPORT with comments will help our case. those fans that don't agree with us don't need to participate, simple and no feelings hurt.
A poll - depends on how you worded the questions, to tweak for a favourable response then leading questions are used. Especially if the polls are on a "Yes / No" basis, the questions are generally and results are in favour. Example of leading question - Do you support band composing their own song? (something along this line). The questions dont have to be straight forward pointing to the exact 3 songs.
DeleteI'm a bit reluctant over "petition" the name itself is in negative light/vibe, which FNC would put up its barrier/wall immediately.
hmm, I hadn't thought about the negativity of a 'petition' but that's a good point. thanks for bringing it up. still, I feel like we can be just as tactful with the wording in a petition. use positive words, don't antagonize FNC, and just express our wish that what we want is CNBLUE's own composition to be released as title songs. Another issue is that the Korean word for a petition is "cheongwonseo請願書", which literally means we "ask and wish with this document." it does have a less of a demanding, and more of a requesting connotation.
DeleteI second The_Joker's opinion :)
Deleteheich - thanks for the Korean meaning of the word "petition". Yes, no doubt the wordings is important, tact and diplomatic (when needs to be) for sure would be the better approach especially in this situation we dont wish to alienate or worse still CNB suffers any backlash. How about substitute the word "petition" with "rally" since it would mean coming together for a common purpose but without the negative connotation. Just my two cents worth.
Deleterifni - thanks for the vote of confidence. It's all for common purpose - CNB own compositions as title track be great for the whole album having their own musics/songs :)
well, the "petition" is just the format of collecting support and comments I found online...we don't need to necessarily call it a petition at all. I just thought it was a good format, because it shows people's support in numbers while also taking in messages without revealing private information (the site I linked makes signers' email address/home address private, and even the names if they want.)
DeleteI like your wording in questions like "Do you support band composing their own song?". It could potentially send strong messages to FNC.
the only concern I have is, on which specific format can we incorporate fans who use different languages? If they have to answer multiple questions, wouldn't that dissipate their participation? after we collect the data, how would it be presented to FNC?...I guess at this point I can't picture how we can prepare it so that it's both powerful AND easily understood.
either way, I'm not necessarily insisting on using that format. if any other convenient format can be found or created, that'd be even better. A k fan has suggested if we can create our own website for this action, which is out of my personal abilities, but if anyone can help us with that, I'd appreciate it so much.
DeleteAhh...yup, I do got it. Okies the "petition" or "rally" or whatever names to be called, since we still have about say 2 months before the actual recording starts. Okies...I'm proposing some ideas based on the "buzz" we used to make while launching new products campaign (I was in product development b4 and involved in the ads, campaign and stuff).
DeleteNormally, the 1st thing you wish to do is create the "buzz" like environment. Here a catchy theme is important to attract the attention 1st. Twitter trending at this point is good, to gather mass attention. So, maybe to have the trending say for 2 weeks with a catchy phrase. An example:
"Want to be the agent of Change?"
"Want to be a part of something New?"
"Let's have the Best of both worlds."
"CNBlue 4 CNBlue - own musics/own lyrics/own songs - Own Way"
Then the Polls could start, for the questions, public generally wont mind the "Yes & No" types of questions. Just to write message that part normally won't have a good respond because people in large find it tedious to actually "pen down/type a few sentences". As for the questions:
a) Nothing too long or difficult - straight forward questions
b) Not too many questions - probably around hrmm 6 - 8
c) Website eh - how bout facebook? since this would only be polls?
Again, just thinking on top of my head :)
For the presentation, there's irl story how a fresh graduate managed to lend a position in a "to die for company". He send a giant card in with his resume to get the attention.
DeleteWe could do something like that - send a giant book with statistic information. E.g.: Dashboard like presentation of graphs with smiley faces. Together with a CD (for more details).
Actually a website would be good, I'm sure among the Boices, there would be a few who are adept at it, asking CNBluestorm would be a good way. I do know a few Dooliers who are graphic artists and/or having IT background or major in it.
For different languages, enlisting the helps of other fans and/or alliances would be good. At my side, I would say - latin, german, malay, indonesian, chinese, tagalog, vietnamese & arabic.
The_Joker thanks for rallying the Dooley community and providing learnings/translation assistance from them. What I love about that community is that they respect JYH-PSH as individuals first and foremost, and not just the ship. Anyone else from any other alliances who loves CNBLUE by association, do let us know if you're willing to help.
DeleteSmall matter @checkinout and as far as it goes for me I'm a band music lover therefore I support C.N.Blue, the only K music scene that I can stomach :). For the "ship" I do acknowledge their friendship not more not less, just that :)
DeleteWoops! Another last bit of information that could be useful when we plan to do the polls and ultimately wanting the result we aim for. A catchy "theme" is important. For the younger generations (Y and Z) now, their distinctive trait is "Change", meaning this crowds want something that is different and new. Therefore, to associate CNB and FNC with change would be a good idea during the polls and twitter trending.
ReplyDeletecheckinout:
ReplyDeletewow!..that's so eerie. (btw wth is "where are you".....)
i'll keep that site in mind. thanks for finding it!!^^
rifni:
there's an image made by one K fan! lemme show it here, it's quite nice:
https://p.twimg.com/AlQo4cfCIAAVx9m.jpg
very rough trans:
"We want to listen to SONGS only by CNBLUE
We want to listen to MUSIC only by CNBLUE
We want to find happiness through sharing the lyrics and songs that they made.
The most important point of this Korean release in a year is that we share them together.
Please let us enjoy that happiness."
I agree with The_Joker that some kind of a theme/catchphrase would be good. We can use it for this type of poster image as well as the twitter trending hashtag. The creator of that image said it's okay to use her images, and she's planning to make more over time. Perhaps we can get her to make a new one in all different languages when we decide on a slogan/translate it? tho, slogans can sound really different in diff languages so that's another tricky part.
Another k fan has suggested making a youtube video of our messages, similar to this one made by Kat-tun fans (the background music will instead by the boys' compositions). please check it out!^^
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WvirGQ9CGAE&feature=youtube_gdata_player
On the vid - checkinout via twit did post the worldwide wishes during CNB recent anniversary.
Deletethanks, I'll check it out :)
Deletehttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yD-TtUwNf3A&feature=youtu.be
Deleteis this it? it's awesome!! :) I wonder if we could contact L.Am Boice too...
Just noticed something bout the theme/catchphrase,
ReplyDeletea simple and short or coined name would work best.
C + N + B = Change + New + Best = C.N.Blue
CnBlue 4 CNBlue
Will think bout other cool and catchy phrase.
I missed to report about another important input from the Korean discussion:
ReplyDeletea fan suggested that we raise funds to support an all-member composition album. It may or may not be their next/full album, but it'll be a message from us that we're willing to purchase music created by CNBLUE. There can be specific conditions, such as the title song and at least half of the full album being CNBLUE's own composition, but these things can be refined.
those on the pro argue that it's a specific and visible action, one that could easily be publicized. it's also a proposal that may work well with FNC. on the con side, without a well-defined leadership system to take responsibilities, dealing with money may lead to more problems. Collecting a sizable amount, gathering funds from fans abroad, and disposing of funds if our wishes aren't realized are also other issues.
Fyki, Doolier's Cafe (The International Dooley Community) had launched a campaign for pledges from its members and it turned out very successfully indeed. This is where member is willing to pledge a marginal sun/money for the community for future projects. Overall, it is running smoothly with regional based reps etc.
DeleteThe "IDEA" is good since it would show FNC, fans are serious and committed. Maybe we could adopt the above idea - ACCEPT PLEDGES for this current point in time from fans, circulate a list where fans are to input their names, locations and pledges.
IC, thank you for such a helpful feedback! sorry to keep asking^^;;--do you have any info on which platform/website they use for the pledges? it would help SO MUCH.
DeleteThe Pledge Campaign was launched through its forum platform (Doolier's Cafe - forum, The International Dooley Community, TIDC). Initially, it was meant for 1 month but due to members' requests it was extended until end January 2012. During during beginning and year end, people tend to be more generous with bonus and Xmas season. The fund has been collected of course, some through its 7 regions reps while some pledged straight through paypal. The amount collected exceeded the expectation :).
DeleteBut for the current pledgers (if Boices/fans/music lovers aim for this) then the Pledge List could be circulated via Daum Cafe, weibo and CNBluestorm. I'll be posting in the Doolier's Cafe forum and TIDC too.
By the way, since the pledgers here would be more diverse and some are not Boices or sign up as members. Then email address is to be included in the list. Name/Location/Amount/Email Add/Paypal (Yes/No). For those that do not have paypal account, then some other arrangement need to be provided but this detail could be iron out later.
thank you so so much. *hugs*
DeleteI'm wondering what other methods besides paypal they used? so just manual wiring of money vs paypal?
another question sprang in my mind while reading this. in the case of the dooley cafe, they had one specific usage for the money and they could be spent at once. if we're pledging money to buy their albums, then while collecting money from different regions, we'd have to collect their names/mail addresses/contacts to send CDs AFTER they release the album I guess?...for that then we'll definitely need reps to do some manual labor?
lemme find out how other fandoms did similar things. I've only heard about these group purchases within Korea (or within specific country), and those work because they have hierarchy or some kinda responsibility system.
Yup, money wiring. telegraphic transfers etc but the fees/charges would be quite a lot. That's why one of the Region Reps' (RR) duties is collection from its members then RR would use paypal to deposit the sum because the charges involved is only 2%, very minimal fee indeed.
DeleteI've became confused with the intention for pledging here, since there would be the transaction parts for fans. For huge crowds and non-memberships involved, would certainly pose a lot of issues. Furthermore, would be repetitive since YesAsia and FNC store are there for these kind of services - buying stuff online.
The Pledgers here, for me would be more to show the fans commitment to buy CNB album. In my above post, I did mention "spending power" , I think that would suffice since it would show from fans how much would we be willing to "spend" on CNB albums. That was one of the reasons, I proposed a survey to, where a set of questions could be asked:
a) How much you spend on entertainment and give a range.
b) How frequent you spend on entertainment.
c) Would you pledge to spend on the next CNB album
d) Have paypal account or credit card
Those without the (d) but has showed interest, then another arrangement need to be made - parking into another Boice's paypal/credit account stuff like that but this "buddy system" need to be agreed by the parties involved and within same location.
Again, just my two cents worth.
oh, I see. so "pledging" is just "committing" before actually sending in the money. I guess I was confused about that. gotcha. wonder if it has much credibility tho, if people can just say "I'll pledge this much" and not really pay the amount. hmm...
Deletethanks for ur info again, as always :)
Im glad to help in anyway I can and it's only a small measure :).
DeleteThose who pledge are serious and didn't go back on their words even if they do (just to be on the prudent side), surprisingly some other pledgers would "top up" the initial pledged amount.
Going back to the scenario in hand here, it is good, in the sense some of the fans do want to buy but have limited options - no paypal or credit cards. So another fan/Boice could help out - the "buddy system".
I looked up some online petition sites. So far the ones I like:
ReplyDelete1.Care2
http://www.thepetitionsite.com/
Pros: nice and simple design. you can see the cause and the signatures right away, easy to sign/comment/share on SNS and blogs.
Cons: nothing in particular?...
2. Act.ly
http://act.ly/
Pros: easily signed on twitter w/o extra log in, can direct it directly at FNC's account so it secures their readership, easily RTable.
Cons: could be cumbersome for those not on twitter, can't add long comments (w/o using other apps, etc).
3. Chage.org
http://www.change.org/
Pros: clean and nice design, can add a fundraising page if we decide to go that way.
Cons: poor linkage w/SNS, individual comments not as easy to see at first glance like Care2, petition issues more geared toward social change
here are some other recommendations:

KDH CONFIRMED ON RADIO TODAY: HE RECORDED CNBLUE'S SONG YESTERDAY.
ReplyDeleteOK, I'M UP FOR ANYTHING NOW.
For real?
Deleteat this point, I'm so mad and all I can think of is:
ReplyDelete-at least pre-release IMH
-boycott of CNBLUE's album w/KDH's title song.
D here from CNBLUESTORM. Instead of a petition, I think we can do a "Good Composer" campaign. It will be the reverse of Good Downloader, where we can ask FNC to let us "vote" on the single that they will comeback with. So, basically they can prepare :30 second teasers for all the songs they have in the album, Then, on the day that the entire album is released, the track with the most Digital downloads will be the song they will comeback and be their official single. This way a song the boys wrote will become the democratically assigned official single. I think we can offer this to FNC as a solution. It meets them halfway, re: the need for marketing, as well as generating revenue from the singles.
ReplyDeleteHi!!! It's me again Anne. Came here from twitter after reading that FNC may not use CNBLUE's own composition as the title track for their comeback album. If you guys will start a petition then definitely I will sign on that petition. I just don't get it why FNC refuses to acknowledge the compositions of the boys yet Japan are embracing the boys's talent and potential. They keep saying that they want CNBLUE to break the misconception of the Korean public about the boys yet they are the one who seems to want to keep the boys from proving the public wrong about this misconception. If KDH is already saying that his composition will be the title track then it might be too late for the petition but at least let us make FNC hear us no matter how late it is. In all honestly it wasn't the title tracks in the boys' Korean albums that made me love their albums but rather the songs that was composed by the boys themselves. Like in I'm a Loner, I wasn't much of a fan of that song but it was Yong's Y, Why song that made me fell in awe and became a fan of this band. Anyway, I don't know if the petition can still be effective but we can try can't we.
ReplyDeleteCan I ask how the voting goes in Korean music shows? Is it album sales or online sales or radio shows song requests? The reason why I'm asking is even if it is KDH's song that will be the title track for their comeback album....I know I would still be buying their album cause that's how I support them. I was wondering if it was online sales of the songs that counts in music programs....may be, may be K-Boices can requests the songs that was composed by the boys themselves to increase the play on the airwaves in radio? I don't know if I explained it clearly. It's like what Beast fans did once. Beast was promoting their title track but their first win for that album was from a song that they weren't promoting. It's because I don't know if international fans can help in anyways in increasing the sales of the boys' composition except from buying the whole album itself, unless they release the albums songs in itunes or something. And I don't think itunes sales are included in the online sales anyway. Anyway, I don't know if you will get what I mean. English isn't really my first language so I don't know how to explain it better. Anyway, if there will be an online petition then I will support you guys. Let's hope FNC will listen to us this time. I hate FNC & KDH for hindering our boys progression but I can't hate FNC too much cause I'm still thankful that they gave us the boys in the first place.
I suggest to continue on the path as planned:
ReplyDelete1) Flood the twitter
2) Flood the message board
On the boycott - extreme but if it would drive home the msg, that's the bitter pill to swallow. Aside from that encourage the fans and all of us here to re-buy CNB Japanese release/singles. We did that b4 for an indie singer where we buy more than 1 of his singles and gift them away to family members and friends.
In general (if I'm not mistaken) the popular song would be based from number of air time, meaning how many times the song/track would be spinned by DJs on radio channels. If K entertainment industry is the same, then KBoices need to make their voices heard i.e., flood in with requests to the radio stations so that ONLY CNB SELF COMPOSED song(s) is/are being played on air.
@earthprincess (D) from CNBluestorm - good idea indeed. Not sure on the "teaser" though, I mean I do realise that in the west US/UK, the artists do that with teasers and all especially with MTV Artist of The Month etc etc. BUT in K entertainment industry, I've yet to see it.
Wow, the topic still being actively discussed ...
ReplyDeletefans in Korea have a "terrible" by force, and all agencies with them are, but that does not mean that you can go at them on occasion, as in this case. What do you mean "song written by just CNBLUE"?! How can we claim it first of all by the boys, giving them thus an enormous moral pressure? Everyone knows that boys are certainly talented (and the first Korean album, to be confirmed), and the agency itself has recently publicly indicated their growth in this area, so bad that someone will help them in writing the songs? They need a powerful title track, and when the guys are ready, I do not think that the company will to resist and suppress them. Is "Intuition" was not among the best band-groups, and the Triple Crown is not just a combination of words ..
more than I care about the health of children ... and that if this album will include not only their songs, buy it by Boiсes and support will not be? nonsense ...
They came out with "Intuition" in March 2010, when YH already had finished composing "In My Head" by Feb. 2010. How do you not see "suppression" here? Intuition never received a positive feedback from the critics, and much of the general Korean public dismissed as "another typical CNBLUE song." Does that say anything? We've already suffered through this last year when they came out with INT AFTER "I don't know why". If you don't feel the same, you don't need to participate, simple and easy.
Deleteso why the tweets from the all Boice?! You asked the opinion of boys?! that they need? it's only your opinion, which may be differ from what the boys think! it's just a foolish from your side. all needs a time, if the song did not come out, so it was not fully prepared.
DeleteWe've waited 2 long years. how much longer? call me foolish all you want, but I'm quite sick of waiting.
Deletehow about make petition online to FNC? on petitionpoll.com or other website?is it too late?
ReplyDeleteOkay!!! I'm now getting nervous. In twitter people are saying to boycott the album if the title track isn't the boys' song. Boycotting the album will hurt the boys more than help them. I hope no one will boycott the album. TT__TT
ReplyDeleteas you all may be а really Boice? you are so spoiled boys comeback! Think about their senses! this is terrible, and I'm sorry boys, that among the fans is like heich
DeleteIt's just one of the ways we're brainstorming to send our message to FNC. We're not decided on anything here. It would be the absolute last resort, since I don't want the boys to get hurt either.
DeleteI hope and pray that people won't resort to boycotting the album even if the title track isn't the boys' composition. I will sign any petition or any message you want to send FNC to ASK them to promote the boys' song as the title track but I hope boycotting the album won't ever be an option.
DeleteHi there @Denny and anne0129
DeleteI do understand over the sensitiveness of boycotting the album. In my earlier post, I did touch on it. There always two sides to every coin. But in the end of the day both for FNC and CNB, ultimately yes money...sales from albums...songs. That was the reason Ive mentioned above that in lieu of the Boices/fans/music lovers deflect CNB comeback album INSTEAD buy more of their Japan singles. At the end of the day would benefit CNB more since they would get commission of singles sales AND royalties for compositions.
Just my unpaid opinion here :) Chill...we are all here to find the "best" solutions and aim for a common purpose - For the love of CNBlue.
buy more singles in Japan? I have already ordered a new single)) and put a cross their career in Korea?. Why do you all think only of themselves? They are officially turned 2 years, they are not independent band, they are part of FNC which as a result are responsible for them and for all what the boys do. How are you going to support them if the Korean albums will not buy because of this? How will you promote them in the charts and on the comeback? Oh, I can not understand, is it your love for CNBLUE?!
DeleteYes let's support their songs I'm all for that but I keep thinking that when they promote their comeback album and sales aren't up to par they might become a "laughingstock" because of this failed comeback. I mean from selling 100,000 units to a failed comeback? I just don't think boycotting the album is a solution at all. Money and album sales aside failing in their comeback will hurt the boys feelings so much more and I know Boice don't want that.
DeleteAs the owner of this blog said - nothing is fixed or cast in stone yet. Still brainstorming stage.
Delete@Denny and @anne0129 - we are all here to find the "Best" solution. We all do get the pain if we were to boycott CNB comeback album.
Instead of getting sensitive about it among us, I would really love to hear both of your suggestions of how to solve this matter cordially of course. That would be the ultimate choice, where FNC, CNB and Boices - all would be in a win win situation.
Just a side opinion (again we are only TALKING in general here) yes wouldn't public and critics at large be sitting up and asking why the dip or lackluster in sales for the comeback album? Personally, I don't CNB would be the "laughingstock" because they have proven their worth, capabilities and abilities with their Japanese formal (Warner Bros) debut together breaking a few charts a long the way.
By the way, that's why I was asking how the popular song being categorised in Korea music industry. Is it via air time? Because if it is, then ask the KBoice to only request CNB own composed songs to be played on air and none on the other composer(s) song for the band.
earthprincess (D) above suggestion is very good indeed about the teaser BUT then again we don't know (or I have yet to come across)the 30 seconds teasers for all the songs in an album because so far that I'm aware of, normally it would be the song that has been targeted to be released as the initial single and hit chart maker. However, there's no harm in trying that idea 1st, if it work well then FNC and CNB would get the a lot of publicity and positive hyped. Boices would be happy that CNB gets the same accreditation in South Korea as they did in Japan.
To end my post, I sincerely would LOVE and APPRECIATE your ideas because all thoughts counts for brainstorming to serve its purpose :)
- Peace out -
well..kboice can support the boys after they release the new album by downloading cnblue self composed songs in the new album right? from sites like melon. can international fans download from there too? ._. i hope that fnc read all the mentions on twitter.
Deletethe thing is, even the biggest fandoms in Korea can't affect melon or any other download sites very much. that's why although boy groups have a lot more fans, they don't always get #1 on the digital charts--considering our size, it's much likely to be dismissed.
Delete@denny, may I know what do you think of CNBlue as? musicians or idol?
DeleteCan we PLEASE not dwell on the boycott issue and just go on abou what we can actually do?...like I said, it's just one of the ideas.
ReplyDeleteHow about creating a new website purely devoted to CNBLUE's own song release? We can link a petition, upload videos, put up a clear statement, etc.
ReplyDeleteIf it's definitive that KDH's song will already be the title song, I think it might be better to at least make known that CNBLUE can make their own songs--esp. very good ones!!
ReplyDeleteAt least from a K fan's point of view, the most frustrating thing is the general Korean public not knowing about their talent and therefore bashing them/undervaluing them for "not being a real band."
I'm thinking of creating a website that archives information about their own compositions, such as live footage, reviews, etc...so that we can circulate it to gain publicity. This way, it doesn't have to be anything negative at all, just like what we've been discussing before KDH's radio bit.
If we're good at it enough, FNC might have something to offer, like the "thank you+first step" album, and even if they don't, nobody gets hurt. Still, CNBLUE's talent may get appreciated by more people. How does it sound?
“We want the music THEY created PLEASE RELEASE CNBLUE's OWN MUSIC IN KOREA!!!” I thought tons of fans agree with the above statement and RT-ing that tweet mentioning FnC should be such an automatic response. I was so wrong. Maybe not that many fans care if the coming Korean album title track is a “CNBLUE song”. By “care”, I mean I saw people say they will support CNBLUE “no matter what”. Quoting the words doesn’t mean negativity! It seems many fans just love CNBLUE a lot. They are afraid that such rallying may do harm to CNBLUE … various reasons that I agree and don’t agree with but the point is they don’t like any campaigns.
ReplyDeleteMay I suggest a “pre-poll”?
- I prefer a CNBLUE member penned song as the upcoming Korean album title track and will participate in related campaigns (petition, twitter trending, etc.).
- I prefer a CNBLUE member penned song as the upcoming Korean album title track but will not join any campaigns.
- I have no preference if the upcoming Korean album title track is composed by CNBLUE members.
Rephrase the above, polish the English (maybe translate into K & J too), do the poll here or ask CNBStorm if they want to host the poll?
I mean what’s the point talking about big projects if it’s just the handful of people talking here? Of course, one can still head out for projects whatever the poll results turn out to be, but one gets the idea how much support will be available.
The above coming from a simple and naive mind. (And I read only English and Chinese.)
The facts :
ReplyDelete- In My Head composed by Jung Yong Hwa achieved big success with album sale in Japan and world wide fans lovin it so much
- Where You Are also composed by Jung Yong Hwa achieved big success too in Oricon Daily and Weekly Chart and world wide fans really diggin to this song.
I think FNC can start give CNBLUE a chance to release their own song in Korea.
They make a big progress in composing and making hit single in Japan. And I do believe they can do it too in Korea.
I'm not a kind of fans that will not support CNBLUE if their song is not made by themselves. But honestly, I will be very dissapointed if I can't see their own song as album title in Korea.
I will support any poll to vote CNBLUE members composed their own song in their new album in Korea.
klaritia perhaps we can kill two birds with one stone by creating the initial poll we discussed, and then add a question on whether the respondents would join a campaign. That way we get the same results without having to ask twice. And perhaps we can get this going as we continue to discuss other activities we can do since I think everyone seems to have agreed to a poll?
ReplyDeleteI like the way klaritia has worded it, could I suggest some amendments?
Question 1:
a. I prefer a CNBLUE member penned song as the upcoming Korean album title track
b. I have no preference if the upcoming Korean album title track is composed by CNBLUE members.
If you selected a, please complete the next 2 questions:
Question 2: I will participate in campaigns (petition, twitter trending, etc.) to have a CNBLUE member penned song as the upcoming Korean album title track.
Question 3: Please write a short message to show your support for a CNBLUE's self-penned song as the upcoming Korean album title track.
heich, i really like your idea on creating a website purely to showcase CNBLUE's self-penned music. While there are many other websites that are dedicated to CNBLUE, these websites are also a wealth of information for ALL things CNBLUE and so this aspect to them gets lost easily. I AM ALL FOR IT! A few of us had started a project to update Yong Hwa's wikipedia page with more info on him as a musician (since it is not obvious currently how talented a songwriter he is) and we'd started to collect links to reviews/articles, including that of CNBLUE as a whole... we took a break at the end of the year, but this could be a joint effort and we can share what we'd originally gathered. Let me check with the rest of the team members and I'll get back to you. Hmm... any one here who knows if there's anything that allows us to aggregate websites, like tumblr, so we can link to relevant CNBLUESTORM articles, poll results etc? Or we will have to get permission to re-post.
I'd like to sincerely apologize. I think I didn't take into full account the range of diversity the CNBLUE fans could feel toward this incident. A CNBLUE fan can of course like KDH's songs. Not everyone's experience is the same, of course.
ReplyDeleteI should know that no one else here has the habit of masochistically going to the those random Korean male-dominant forums, search "cnblue" and getting hurt. I don't know why the hell in the world I do it, I should probably stop. I think I do it to see if anything's changed, if anyone's noticed their improvement of musical talent. I just feel really sorry if it felt like I was forcing anyone to feel a certain way. I think my rage made me snap for a few days.
maybe I was too quick to ask ALL BOICE OF THE WORLD. how Korean fans feel about this is very different (even among themselves, as it turns out), perhaps because their reputation at home and abroad are quite different. I don't want to force the same kind of feeling on anyone. am I repeating myself? I feel like I just should. sorry for being ignorant and redundant.
after that thought, I'm not sure if ALL BOICE should take a unitary action. is that even possible? or desirable? especially when FNC isn't the type of a company that would care?
anyhow, in that spirit, I agree to doing a pre-poll to see how international fans feel about the issue. I'm guessing "international" is again, too broad a category.
I think a pre-poll to see how international fans feel about the issue is worth a try.
DeleteI, as an international fan, also want to at least voice out my thoughts that has been clouding my mind.
I believe that many international Boice I know feel the same, too.
I'm up for anything and looking forward for the occasion.
dont be discouraged ... we know you are fighting very hard for something good for our boys future ... we have our rights to like or support any album / artists /composer we want ... we will support if we think it's speaking our mind as well... so dont be discouraged so long as we do it properly ^^ ~KC
Deletethank you guys. sorry I got emotional. I'm still here, trying hard!! just brainstorming more and more about what to do. let's all think of what's the best way to approach this.
DeleteI think firstly we need to know what members' thoughts about it. You know nowadays they make their Fanclub Tour in Japan. So if Japanese Boice can make a banner about it and show it on concert this can be good. CNBLUE can see it and teach our thouhts and maybe they can make a statement about it.
ReplyDeleteFor to show our thoughts to FNC, a online poll can be done. So all Boices around the world can show own idea. Such a poll can be done with Google docs. There's a only problem is how we represent the results to FNC.
Hi Heich and to whom this may concern,
ReplyDeleteI was able to read this a few days back, it got my attention but I wasn't able to focus on it. I was just thinking that you are just voicing out a suggestion and asking everyone to discuss what it is all about. I was not thinking that you intend to take an action about it. I would like to apologize for this late reply.
I actually LIKE your idea Heich, it made me realized that most of my favorite songs actually have CNBLUE members' involvement... like 'Sweet Holiday' and 'Love Light' from the Korean albums. Most of their Japanese releases are my favorites. I have bought their Japan Full albums 'ThankU' and '392' even if I can hardly afford it.
Am Lyna, administrator of cnbluestorm.com and founder as well. This comment or reply is not in behalf of cnbluestorm but its my personal opinion and does not reflect cnbluestorm as a whole. But, we the admins except for Bianca have discussed this lightly... not deeply and thoroughly since we (Fiz, Dot and me) are busy with each others' projects and concerns. But, we are on the process of making a stance as a group with regards to this issue. Yet, it still need to be discussed as a group.
Since my reply is incredibly long, I've posted my idea about this issue at my blog and shall be waiting for the group member's reply. Everyone is also free to comment on it.
http://wwlyna.wordpress.com/2012/02/15/4discussion-with-regards-to-heich_-proposal-of-wishing-that-cnblue-will-release-singles-written-by-themselves/
thanks, Lyna. I really appreciate it. I'll read it and comment there as well.
DeleteUpdate on the new developments:
ReplyDelete-after we spammed FNC's twitter like mad, someone at DC JYH contacted FNC about the matter (as an individual fan). Not sure if it's "official" FNC reaction, but whoever answered the called reacted quite negatively and said that fans were violating FNC's rights. FYI, This post has been deleted, so I don't have the exact words, nor do I have proof that he/she actually made a call to FNC. still, considering FNC's past stances, it seems like what they would say.
-Hongki of FTISLAND said yesterday that they'll be able to make their next album without FNC's control. K boice are thinking perhaps this is a way of ameliorating us? or telling us we should wait? anyways, it's all speculation.
-on the K side, we're still debating what to do. some fans are reluctant, just as many of you are, of hurting the boys in any way. others still want to voice some kind of an opinion. some has suggested requesting a pre-release of a CNBLUE composition before the title song, and others suggested a "double-title" song, like some other groups have tried. because we don't have one representative website, it seems quite difficult to gather our opinions at once. but those of us who are interested are still discussing.
-since they've already recorded the song, some people want to work on a long-term goal, such as raising public awareness about their musical potential. for one, I've latched onto an idea to start a website that archives their activities as a band that anyone can use to promote their own music. (bought a web domain, "cnbluetheband.com")
love the name: cnbluetheband! count me in if you need help to set this up. regardless of whatever activism we decide to take, this website is nothing but goodness for the boys.
Deletewwlyna - i read your post but decided to respond here since most of the comments are already on this blog. I like how you've laid out your plan and agree with the poll. Again, it is good data gathering and we can decide how to use it. I like your approach - a calm, united email/letter and give FNC a chance to respond before we decide if we need to escalate.
Hmm... I also think spamming FNC's twitter account is not a good idea. Basically, I don't like seeing my timeline with just one message. But, its already done. And FNC's reaction is not about spamming right? It's given to someone at DC JYH who contacted FNC about the matter, right? So the negative reaction is either for the person who contacted or with regards to the matter. For me, I always think there's 2 sides of everything. It's either that someone who contacted FNC used the wrong approach or the one who answered the call viewed it in a negative light. Basically, if you tend to hurt someone's pride, they will react negatively. If you use positive approach, I believe it will have positive reaction too.
DeleteAnd, if there's a will, there's a way.
And there's a technique of getting what we want. Not to brag, but I usually get what I want. The trick there is, make the implication that the other side is actually benefiting on our move.. and always put yourself lower than them.
They usually realize it late that they've already given you what you want.. I don't know what technique is this but it usually works. ^^ Based on my experience from politics and governance. Because am usually out of budget, i need sponsors and you won't get it without giving them benefits for sponsoring. It's a TRICK for TREATS. ^^
Dear heich and to whoever that would be reading this.
ReplyDeleteDont be disheartened, Rome was not built in one day and in hind-sight there would always be shoulder...woulder. Making a stance is always scary and could also make a person unpopular but I hope you do realise and know that your intention was/is sincere, that's where the promise of a better tomorrow come about anyway. Well, that's enough of me being poetic or dead poet society (joke) lol.
Based on the discussions that I had on my side yesterday, I came to a conclusion that the music entertainment industry in South Korea has not really matured and very much skewed into one type of genre. Not surprising since CNBlue was debuted as "Idol Band" and the stigma still exists till todate. I only came across this terminology in Hallyu wave (shrugs). I also think that to overcome these obstacles with CNBlue staking and cementing its rock band status would fare much3x better by having a broader international based fans because the music scenes is more vibrant and colourful. The band surely needs that since they plan to be an everlasting one. Case in point Japan, where CNBlue is able to really showcase their talents unhindered and I'm also forever thank you because I got to experience the "core" of them through their musics and performances even though the latter is via DVDs.
It is really an excellent idea over a website dedicated to CNBlue the band, a sort of repository. Let's make this into a journey and I hope we could all do it together. Yup, a small step today but a giant leap tomorrow.
I'm more than happy to help in any way that would be beneficial to CNBlue. I was thinking of analysing...musing..over their songs, hence the blog "Decoding CNBlue" but real life, personal and some other community based projects are on my plate currently. But please dont hesitate to howler if and when you do need help :).
wwlyna
I do support the letter with the time frame mentioned and/or the snail mail letter cum with signatures.
Thank you everyone for all the support. I'll be taking a day off today to get some rest. Please keep the ideas coming though.
ReplyDeletecheckinout, The_Joker, thank you so much for volunteering to help out. You guys ROCK. ^_~ One thing to confess though, from what I've gathered in the last few days, it seems like the website needs to at least start off primarily in Korean. I'm very sorry if that's excluding any of your participation or readership of that website. I'll try to make it as communicable as possible with intl boice.
ReplyDeleteHaving said that, the website will be centered around the boys' own songs and their performances. So, the language barrier might not even be a big obstacle for just enjoying that webpage. I might also add an eng ver of the website sometime soon. It's still very tentative. Would you mind waiting a while until things become a little more solid?
Thanks, and sincerely sorry.
Hello fellow BOICE, I have been reading all your comments and following this thread for a while now just trying to figure out what's been going on and just evaluating all the facts and information you all have been sharing. I'm so glad to see that so many people love the boys so much and just want what's best for them. I am somewhat new to the fandom but I love CNBLUE non the less, they have quickly become my favorite group for many reasons but mainly because I love all their music and their spirit.
ReplyDeleteWith that said, I can't help but feel that even though everyone's intentions are in the right place, what we really NEED to focus on is what CNBLUE want and think about all this. Yes, I know that some of you have touched on this topic but just really think for a moment if all this emotional banter and protest is really in the best interest of CNBLUE. Do they even have a problem with working with outside talent to produce music they want to release? Have they ever voiced any opposition to working with other musicians in order to release music for their fans to enjoy? Are they visibly upset or outraged in any way in regard to not having had a self-produced title track in Korea as everyone else seems to be? I really do think that we all just need to know where they stand first and foremost because it's all about CNBLUE, not what the fans want. Has anyone ever stopped to think about the legalities of all this? I mean, what if they have a contract set in place that binds them to having to work with certain composers/writers since they are pretty much still so very new to the music industry. Has anyone stopped to think that maybe CNBLUE welcome veteran assistance with their Korean releases simply because they want to do better in their native home?
With all do respect, I honestly admire everyone's WANT to have the boys create and release their own creative works, I want that too, but honestly ask yourselves if all this commotion will really help or hinder CNBLUE as a brand and as four individual human beings. The last thing I would ever want to happen, as I'm sure you all feel that same, is that CNBLUE get hurt in any way. I would hate for something to go wrong and have it reflect poorly on them simply because of something that could've been avoided.
DeleteIn my opinion, I think everyone should just wait and see what happens! I know that they all, especially both Yonghwa and Jonghyun have exhibited outstanding talent in writing and musical composition but its really only been 2 years since they had their debut in Korea. By most standards, they are still considered very young and green in regards to their working knowledge of music. They themselves always say how they need and want to grow musically and they will, but in their own time and not by the timeline their fans set for them. All I'm saying is please don't feel the need to rush them into something they may not be ready for or even want at the moment.
Think of how much pressure they must feel in their day to day lives just trying to please everyone and they work super hard doing that. Imagine how greatly stressful it is for them to produce the same level of success in their own country that they have abroad. Hasn't anyone ever thought about that? They've done so well In Japan and have been touring all over Asia for the past few months and now have to quickly regroup to prepare for their first US concert and then rush back to prepare for their Korean comeback on top of it all. Which means more public appearances, more TV shows and performance, which all means no rest for CNBLUE. I'm sure it can't be easy for them to come back to Korea and struggle with duplicating Japan sales or even the success of their previous releases. They don't need to feel more pressure from their fans of all people on top of everything else.
Sorry for the rant but I just felt the need to put in my two cents. I really do think we all should try to support them as much as we can even if that means to sit back a bit and allow CNBLUE to deal with what they need to deal with and have their BOICE be right behind them every step of the way! Thank you all for being so passionate about the boys and for letting me share my opinion. My apologies if I voiced some opinion already shared.
**sorry I had so much to say and had to reply to myself to fit it all**
Thanks, Mynxx.
ReplyDeleteAll of your concerns are exactly what we feel, too. That's why we're taking time to figure out what we should do within our limitations.
I agree with you that it must be the legal issue. It must be why Honggi said by next album, they'll be able to release a cd on their own. That's mainly why we're stopping to think about how to approach this carefully.
However, I have to say more. The music critics in Korea and the general music listening population don't cut them any slacks for being a 2 year old band. They undervalue and even mock CNBLUE for not having musical talent, as an idol band who can'write their own music. Because the only real activities they see in Korea is what KDH made.
Let me copy here my translation from Lyna's post.
This is what the Korean music critics think of CNBLUE’s “commercially” successful “First Step” album. This excerpt is from an online compilation someone posted called “Idol albums rated by critics” at Korean Music Awards, the only Korean music awards that give awards based on musical quality, not sales. Very highly regarded by those in the entire music industry, not just the idol/”kpop” world.
while artists such as GD&TOP, Infinite, and IU’s albums receive mostly 3 and above stars with quite favorable reviews, the following was about CNBLUE.
Choe Ji ho-★★ I look up who wrote the song for them. It’s a shame as a band.
Kim Gogeumpyung-★★☆ They tried to be Maroon 5, but they lost presence and couldn’t stand on either the rock or the electronica side.
Lee Kyungjun-★★ I sense an attempt at trying to erase the stigma of an “idol”, but the problem is, what’s next?
Kim Jakka-★★ All I can confirm is a differentiated strategy as a band-type idol
Na Dowon-★★ Can we expect “an album created by an idol band,” not “an album participated by an idol band”?
They DO expect them to write their own music. because they're a BAND. AND they CAN WRITE them. Most critics brushed "Intuition" aside as "just another I'm a Loner." In Radio Star, the MC Yoon Jong Shin asked YH and JH why they make music sound like regular KPOP song, not rock even if they can do it so well and like it (after the performance of Bon Jovi's "Always"). In another show, "Myung Batatseupnida", when Yh played "Intuition" on a guitar and sang, the MC Tak Jae Hoon made him sing "I'm a Loner." Then he said, "You just copy yourself! Play them together." so he had to play the two together, making them sound really similar. They made it a laughingstock and had him play that. For music that he didn't even create! When his own music is so fresh and diverse, the critics and the mass public ridicule them for being talentless. Is this fair?
Of course, I don't want to assume anything about what the boys WANT. But from recent interviews in Japan, we can gather a sense that they enjoy making their own music and expressing themselves through music. You mentioned that they don't have time to make music all the time? According to YH's recent interview in Japanese magazines, In My Head was finished composing in February 2010. Where you are was done shortly after that. When did they come out with Intuition? MARCH of "2011".
ReplyDeleteThrough their crazy schedules, they still MAKE them. but they can't release them in Korea, their homeland, and get unfair reviews for that. This is precisely what us fans can't stand. It's not for us, it's their reputation in Korea at stake. We already went through this during "First Step." We're acting out this time, because it's been a WHOLE YEAR, AFTER their successful releases of own songs in Japan, that this is happening.
This public image of "talentless pretty boy band" will only harden, if not permanently stick with, CNBLUE if their 4th song is again written by KDH. If he didn't have any reputation issue and wrote perfectly great songs, maybe we can wait. But after "I'm a Loner," anything he writes for CNBLUE goes under scrutiny for plagiarism. When Intuition first came out, the first thing the online scavengers asked and dug up was "what did this song copy this time?" And they found something and circulated it. The boys said in the interviews that it gave them quite a shock.
You also talked about the pressure of making music and presenting them to general public. Japan's music industry is #2 in the world, much bigger than the South Korean market. Which pressure would be bigger? Some fans say this too. "FNC should know best, what do we know?" But, whenever I upload their “tattoo” “illusion” “just please” “in my head” “kimio” performances on online forums, ALL THE COMMENTERS, even the non-fans, say “wth don’t they do this stuff in Korea? they totally should! love the music they make on their own!" Do you think Japanese people have different tastes? I think, although there must be different individual tastes in music, CNBLUE's own music sounds very good to Korean ears too.
Aside from the legal issue, us fans really don't understand why FNC is doing this to CNBLUE. That's why we're trying to send some kind of a message. As fans, yes, but not only to say what we WANT. But to say, we think this is also better for CNBLUE.
So for now, some of us Korean fans have decided it's the safest to promote public awareness about CNBLUE's own musical capabilities. That's why we're in the process of making a website that can be used to showcase their own music and performances. In the meantime, we're also trying to think of other effective short-term ways to convey our message to FNC. If you have any thoughts or suggestions with all of these issues in consideration, please feel free to let us know.
ReplyDeleteThank you for all the information, I was sort of ignorant to some of the hardships they have faced in those situations. It bothers me to know that there's nothing we as fans can do for them as far as changing minds of critics and negative feedback they have endured. To lend our support in what little way we can, is all I think we can do. Other than that, i have no other suggestions at the time.
ReplyDeleteI have to say that I really appreciate all you and the other Boice are doing. In a lot of ways, its difficult being a foreign fan like myself because of the language barriers and distance but its empowering to know that there are ways to contribute to the fandom!
I think a site showcasing their talents is much needed! I'm pretty sure that you have all the help you need in creating the site but I do have digital/ graphic artist skills so if you need any help at all, I'd love to assist! Thanks again for your comments.
Mynxx/ Wow, thank you!! At this point, we're working on the Korean site first. We're definitely considering opening an English site as well, so could you please help us out? I'll post about that later when more decisions are made.
DeleteI'll be happy to do whatever I can! Just email me and leave me more info whenever you're ready!
Deletegot it! thanks :) I deleted it for your privacy^^;; will send an email soon!
DeleteHi all,
ReplyDeleteYup, it's me again :). Thanks heich and other fellow Boices for doing the website - a standing ovation indeed for you gals/guys. I simply can't wait, sorry if I were to sound pushy...but just excited and maybe for the awareness, heich you would like to have the Song Of The Month. So, more fans could discuss and write/post a msg on that particular song - what it means, how it connected to the fans etc.
Mynxx - welcome to this great fandom. Fyki, I'm new to the Hallyu wave too, only since last year (April 2011) after I've visited S.K and fell in love with their culture. No doubt the Korean wave had hit my shore for about > 10 years. But I'm a snob lol can't stand weepy dramas without reasons caused it reminds me of flash flood or too many plots/sub-plots that make climbing to Mt. Everest seems easier. For pop-ish type of music especially those with tons of synthesizer until I'm hearing a robot kind of singing while the dancing style, you see it once, twice, basically you've seen them all.
My C.N.Blue Experience
Hearing CNB songs are really refreshing to me, I do take my hats off to them. My first time hearing their music were the songs they released during their indie days in Japan. Yup, blame on my OCD, so I listened in sequential order according to their singles/mini & full albums releases. Though their English songs did give me shivers (sadly not in a good way ;), though much 2x improved nowadays) but I'm very much captivated with their vocals and music. I'm more incline to JYH's vocal because I like the husky + coarse + raspy type of voice. I also like the fact that JYH's composed songs that have mix rock genres in them, an edgier rock pieces while LJH - I can see his vocal and compositions more towards the pop rock.
I did have a whiplash when I heard some songs that were typically KPop and guess which songs they were? I felt they didnt jell and totally out of sync with CNB the band.
Since I'm used to listening to band music then as a band, it is expected that the band mates are able to compose and write songs. Again, as an artist who is able to compose/write his/her own song, in general - critics and public would admire/appreciate and kowtow towards such person.
Especially nowadays where you can easily hear good self-composed songs by indie artists via myspace or youtube. Therefore, even though CNB in totality have only 2 years + experience based on their formal debut in S.K but in the current music scene that doesnt matter. Artists discovery grow like mushrooms but only a handful would last. Distinctive sound through music and performances that what set them apart especially based on the everlasting bands - INXS, AC/DC, Rolling Stones, Muse, Radiohead, Creed, to name just a few. Even though some bands are already disbanded but their musics still lives on - Oasis, The Verve, Led Zeppelin, The Doors, The Beatles etc. It all points to good distinctive music that showcase who the artist is so public could recognise them - it's their identification.
Btw outside topic - IMHO the underground music scene/songs in S.K are much better than what have been dished out by KPop.
I'm sorry if I took the space to write some irrelevant CNB stuff but generally that's how I feel about CNB the band and band music as a whole.
song of the month? sounds cool! :) will make a note of it to the K website preparation group. I always appreciate your ideas!
Deleteyour story was such an enjoyable read, too. thanks for sharing. maybe we can collect these stories about how we fell for their music. their Eng songs gave me the shivers too at first^^;; but somehow they grew on me. I agree the music was too good to pass! ;)
I agree there's better stuff in the K indie scene. but I also feel like CNBLUE's "real" music is even worse in terms of accessibility. I think, because of KDH/FNC, CNBLUE has ironically turned into an awkward "over-but-under-ground band." The kind of music they love to create never gets showcased except abroad. Will HSH allow them to "shine bright" when their sales record become stable enough?...or will he think that "this strategy works in Korea."?
should stop thinking about this. gives me a headache every time.
Thanks for your reply and yes I really do get it the "over-but-under ground band" thing. CNB is really caught in between the lines.
DeleteOh, I certainly hope so, on the English website because of the language barrier, it does get frustrating most of the times to access news and information about CNB.
IRL I'm doing Risk Management, so pretty much involve in from strategies to the final leg (B2B or B2C). Communications wise from BOD to general public. Thinking outside the box and creativity are like a mantra in this line of work. I do know some PR people and reporters in my country though but I could always ask them over publicity and awareness campaigns/drive. I wish I could be more helpful to you and the team. Please don't hesitate if you need to pick my brain or my pocket, I'm sure most of us here would like to contribute and assist you in anyway we can.
One last note - the one that gave you headache. I'll take a rain check on that while I do some diggings and readings because there are so many things to look at - management directions, strategy and style. The revenue and profit pie components of FNC. The whole legalese btwn FNC and CNB because the label is also the band academy - for prep/training. Korean society - the demographic information and historical trends. Then to do some benchmarkings. So lol kind of what I do irl. But this "breather" time would be good for us too, to regroup, focus and have a clearer direction on how to map the future ;).
Always appreciate your input. Thanks.
DeleteCNBLUE was featured in SBS's evening news last night, as part of "Rock Hallyu." (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NVifZs1_2fc&feature=youtu.be via @akanzh)Soon after, Koreans jeering "CNBLUE? ROCK? ha!" flooded twitter-- god save my poor heart.
HSH even did a short interview. Here's the original & trans.
"한국에선 사실 아이돌 이미지가 강하고, 일본에선 사실 밴드 이미지가 강해요. 전혀 한류 쪽에 관심이 없는 락 팬들을 흡수하고, 새로운 한류로 끌어들이는 그런 역할을 하고 있다고 생각합니다.
In Korea, they have a strong image as an idol. In Japan, they have a strong image as a band. I think they are absorbing rock fans who have no interest in Hallyu and attracting them into a new strand of Hallyu."
To me, this says: he exactly knows what he's doing and he intends to pursue that route. Perhaps because he thinks this is what WORKS.
Hope that helped a little.
Btw,is there a way for me to contact you besides through this blog? a twitter id or an email address? Same goes for Mynxx, if you're reading this. Thanks.
